Local craft breweries have had their spirits lifted thanks to a change in the discount structure for payments to the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.
Craft Breweries across the province pay a commission to the NLC based on volumes sold. The discount on that commission ranged from 15 to 95 per cent.
Phil Maloney, co-owner of Bannerman Brewing Company, calls the change “massive” for small startups like themselves.
His company is only a year old, and in that year they have had to contend with the hardships of snowmageddon and the pandemic. He says the money he will save can go towards creating more positions and buying new equipment, such as a canning line.
