Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who missed out on coming home in the summer because of COVID travel restrictions may also face restrictions over Christmas.
The COVID-19 situation across the nation varies vastly from the situation in Newfoundland and Labrador, with provinces such as Ontario, BC, and Quebec seeing a surge in numbers during the second wave of the virus.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they’re monitoring what is happening in the rest of Canada closely as the holiday season fast approaches.
She realizes many people are holding out hope to see family over Christmas. Fitzgerald says Public Health will make a decision “in the coming weeks” based on the risk to our population.
