It was the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department to the rescue yesterday after a turkey flew the coop and perched in a tree.
Julia Parsons has a small farm in Carbonear and had purchased a couple of female turkeys from the Codroy Valley to add to her flock.
Parsons says the birds arrived yesterday after an eight-hour drive from the west coast, but they made a run for it when she was trying to transfer them to their new home.
Parsons says she chased them for a while, which didn’t help, and when she checked on them later, found the wayward bird perched in the top of a tree.
That’s when she put a call out on Facebook for help. Little did she know who would come to her rescue.
Someone asked whether the fire department come out to help in such a situation, and lo and behold, they showed up.
The bird was safely retrieved from the tree and is now settling into her new home.
