Energy Minister Andrew Parsons says while the perception is that hydrogen development on the province’s southwest coast is a done deal, that is not the case.
An agreement signed last week in Stephenville sets the framework and intention to develop green hydrogen in the province for export to Germany by 2025.
A number of projects are being considered and developed, none of which have yet received approval.
Minister Parsons says while the possibilities are encouraging, regulatory and environmental processes are now underway, and nothing has yet been approved.
For instance, the companies have another month to go before they’re required to let government know where they intend to develop in terms of Crown land. That is separate from the environmental assessment process which is underway for at least one proposed project.
