There was a standing ovation in the House of Assembly yesterday for a chaplain, author and minister in the Presbyterian Church.
Reverend Doctor Major Ian S. Wishart, the chaplain for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, served in Saskatchewan, Ontario, and at the Kirk in St. John’s.
He arrived in Newfoundland in 1972, and led the congregation at the Kirk until his retirement in 1998.
But, as MHA Lloyd Parrott pointed out, Wishart, who is 94, has remained as busy as ever.
He remains the Chaplain of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, the Newfoundland Militia District, Branch 56 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Provincial Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. “His son David told me last week, that ‘dad stands taller and sounds prouder each year as he prays for those fallen comrades.'”
