A student assistant who works with children with complex needs says a new accessible field trip transportation program will take a big financial weight off their shoulders.
Yesterday, Bursey’s Bus Service announced the Kayla Cares program.
It’s named in memory of owner Evan Bursey’s sister who would have required the use of a wheelchair for her entire life.
Close family friend Michelle Scott, who is also a student assistant at Paradise Intermediate, says schools currently have to fundraise to get accessible bussing for field trips, noting that the cost can be around $250 per trip.
She says her school will be one of the first to take advantage of the initiative with a field trip next week.
She says they will be able to redirect the money that would have gone to hiring a bus to other trips. She believes the program will mean a “great deal” to parents of kids with complex needs.
