A woman whose husband was attacked last year in Mount Pearl is not impressed with the city’s response to the violence.
Mount Pearl held public meetings and consultations, and allocated $200,000 in the 2026 budget to go toward improving public safety.
Bailey Rempel, who unsuccessfully ran for council in October, says she was hoping to see a concrete plan outlining specific measures.
For starters, she told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that she would like to see the installation of lighting in public places such as the trails.
“I think we should come up with a plan for public spaces which could include a minimum standard for business that want to operate in those spaces,” says Rempel.
“There was an incident at St. David’s Park in the fall and maybe if we had had a camera, it would have been dealt with.”
Mount Pearl Council intends to release its safety plan in the new year.
