The Liberal government is now just one seat shy of a majority after an MP in the Toronto area crossed the floor. He becomes the second Conservative to do so since last spring’s election.
Political analyst Tim Powers says anytime an MP leaves the Conservative Party, leader Pierre Poilievre has to bear the responsibility.
Poilievre is facing a leadership review in January.
“He’s going to have to figure it all out and I’m sure there will be concern in his office if PM Mark Carney ends up with an unfettered four years in office instead of one more year or so,” says Powers.
