Marine Atlantic sailings have resumed after the latest storm forced cancellations on the Gulf crossing, and extra crossings have been added to the schedule to clear up backlogs ahead of the next storm forecast in the coming days.
Marine Atlantic’s Darrell Mercer says the weather has had a significant impact on operations on what is a very busy time of year for both passenger and commercial traffic.
He says the last two weeks have been a real challenge, but they’re making the most of available weather windows to move traffic along.
He says they’re putting on more dedicated commercial crossings “because we know that there’s a lot of packages that are coming in, a lot of products that are coming in to Newfoundland this time of year.”
“So we’re going to try to move some of that traffic over the next 24-48 hours.” He says with another weather system coming for Wednesday, and again for Friday, they’re doing what they can to keep people and goods moving.
