The Kids Eat Smart Foundation is making a push today for donations to help make sure school-aged children have a healthy breakfast to start the day.
The foundation’s province-wide breakfast blitz asks people to support their local breakfast clubs by either dropping off donations of food to fill their cupboards, or by making a monetary donation online.
Executive Director Celina Stoyles cites data that indicated one in three children in this province goes to school hungry, something which she calls “startling.”
She says principals are telling them that more and more students are availing of their programs, so they are asking people to help ensure that every child has access to their programs.
Monetary donations can be made online, and Stoyles says the best way for people to donate food is to contact the school in their community directly.
She says they are accepting products such as cereal, granola bars, whole grain crackers and bread, fruit cups and anything that is a healthy option for kids to eat at school.
