The Sierra Club of Canada says a new poll shows that the majority of Canadians asked believe that Canadian renewable energy is important to help strengthen the country’s national security.
The survey was conducted from February 4th to the 13th by Opinium on behalf of the Sierra Club of Canada.
It found that 67 per cent of respondents say reliance on oil and gas increases the risk of international conflict, and 59 per cent believe Canada would be safer if it produced more renewable energy in light of recent global events.
The poll was conducted after U.S. action was taken on Venezuela and after U.S. President Donald Trump expressed a desire to take over Greenland.
The director of communications at the Sierra Club Canada, Conor Curtis, says the poll found there is a lot of support across the country for renewable energy.
“Not only for climate and for energy needs, but also as a security solution and a sovereignty solution.”
