There will be a special general meeting of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society in a couple of weeks to get the organization back on track, structurally, and to talk about what would be the 50th folk festival.
The first order at the March 15th meeting will be elect a interim board of directors. Spokesperson Jean Hewson says several, including her, have committed to putting their name on the ballot.
This summer should mark the festival’s 50th anniversary, but whether that will happen and what it would look like is uncertain.
“One of the ideas we were throwing around was doing a 49th and-a-half,” says Hewson, a musician and long-time society member. “…having something scaled down but we will be celebrating the 50th at some point down the road.”
