It’s full steam ahead for the School Lunch Association once school opens in September.
John Finn says they’ve received great support from school board and public health officials in coming up with a plan for serving hot, nutritious meals to students in 36 locations across the province.
The organization was left with a significant amount of food when schools abruptly closed in March, but Finn says they took quick action to redirect those resources to ensure it got to the people who needed it most.
He says some 20 different organizations benefited, including Stella’s Circle, the Buckmaster Community Centre, Choices for Youth, the Gathering Place, and various food banks.
Finn indicates COVID-19 will present some added challenges this year for the School Lunch Association, including an anticipated increase in demand, a reduction in corporate donations and additional costs due to the increased need for PPE.
